Are Trees the Real Enemies?

Yes you read that right, are trees the real enemies?

Are Trees the Real Enemies?

Matthew 21:18-22 NASB

18 Now in the early morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry. 19 And seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves alone; and He *said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered.

20 Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, “How did the fig tree wither all at once?” 21 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. 22 And whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive it all.”

Are we trees? If Jesus came by and saw us, would we be bearing fruit? How are our actions showing the Lord’s light? When we talk do our words tear each other down? Do we judge people around us by what they’re wearing or what they might smell like?

I spend about 95.9% time of my day bullying my little sister. The minute I see her I always seem to have something negative. I never can seem to find something nice to say and instead I just spit out whatever comes to my mind and boom we are arguing all day. But my words affect how she acts the rest of the day. She’s gloomy, sad, and self conscious. Just because I started everything off with opening my mouth and filling her with doubt. Now I’m saying this because I’m not an amazing sister AT ALL (and most likely I’ll argue with her before the evening is over). I’m not even close BUT I’m saying this because I want you to think through your morning and how you act when you’ve just waken up from a fitful night sleep. Are we tired and grumpy and causing unneeded stress? Are we not thinking about what we’re saying?

When we speak our words should fill each other with light and encouragement. Instead of being that tree that bears nothing, let’s build one another up and grow fruit.

Would you like to have the power to take a mountain and throw it into the sea? I know I sure would. But if we are doubting ourselves and not allowing new growth we will wither and die.

So do you want to be like the fig tree or do you want to move mountains?
