Beyond the Horizon – Book Review

Beyond the Horizon

Hi guys! Some of you might remember the book tour I was in back in April called A Question of Loyalty by Jesseca Wheaton.

Well, I just read her book Beyond the Horizon, it was…amazing! I know some of the blogs and people I know don’t like stories that have people falling in love with them (so please forgive me)!

About the book: Eliana longs to see the world beyond the mountains that tower above Salzburg, Austria, but knows that dream will never see such adventure- and neither will she. Surrounded by a world of cruelty, she lives for the weekly visits of Aron, a boy she met on one of her rambles through the countryside. But as the years pass and she begins to grow older, a new and unwelcome world is opened up to her. On a fateful night at a party she vowed she’d never attend, she comes face to face with a shocking truth. As the world around her teeters on the brink of war, Eliana struggles to figure out just where her loyalty lies; a decision that will drastically change the course of her life. Will she ever be free to see what lies beyond the horizon?

I’d rate this book 5 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!! And any age could read it in my opinion. The book is set in a Christmas Cinderella/WWII setting which makes it awesome! It was an amazing read though way too short ‘cries’. I love long books so seeing the length of this book made me kinda sad…but the plot made up for it!!! I’ve never been really into Cinderella stories cause they are all the same and make me kinda annoyed at the Prince…but the way Jesseca wrote the book made me so excited and happy! I was also really sad about what was going on but you know…it’s WWII, it’s not supposed to leave you with that ‘let’s drink hot cocoa around the fire and sing Kumbaya’ feeling. Either way please check it out if you like Cinderella/WWII stories!

Okay, see you soon!

Independence Day!

Hey guys!! So I know I said I wasn’t going to post for a while, but to be honest…I LOVE posting! I really love sharing my pictures, life, lessons I’ve learned, and baking! So anyways today is Independence Day (aka fourth of July)!!!!

Why we celebrate Independence Day: The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.

So, to be honest, we don’t usually do the whole fireworks & parades thing but we do have a cook-out and watch *gasp* Gettysburg. “Why Gettysburg,” you ask. Well, honestly this has been a tradition since the beginning of time for my family! Every year we sit down and watch the whole thing….actually a certain family member ALWAYS falls asleep right before the main battles! And just last year this person stayed awake the whole time…..and was astonished to find the movie has some action in the end (I do NOT fall asleep during this movie…I live for historical war movies……..I shall sleep when I’m dead, jk). But seriously Gettysburg doesn’t really have anything to do with the 4th. The reason we watch it is simple…1. It’s a historical battle(s) that happens near July 4th. 2. It’s hard to find an Independence movie that’s family friendly and 99.9% historically accurate.

So this year I made a yummy pie for breakfast! My sibling actually found this recipe and shared it with me so thanks, bro! It’s called Old Glory Berry Pie and you can find the recipe by clicking here. Honestly, it was super easy to make and it turned out pretty good in my opinion!

So please let me know what you think of this! It took me about 25 minutes top to put it together and FOREVER to bake! I personally think it was worth it…but that’s just me!

And that’s it! And I truly mean it this time…..I shall be back in a few weeks!!

So long folks!

honestly, I think I should record me singing this and have that be my ending theme song!

Interview with Beautiful Things!

Hey guys! Today I’m back with another interview (this time it’s a human)! Laura is a Christian author, blogger, full-time writer, and an amazing person! Her answers are in bold! Also, I’m hoping to do more interviews with bloggers, authors, and just people in general! So let me know in the comments if you’d like to do that! So…let’s get started!

What’s your name (or pen name): My name is Laura.  I don’t exactly have any pen names, but a friend is helping me work on that. 🙂

Favorite color? Navy because it goes with practically everything.  I do also like purple and yellow…Those are my other favorites. 😉

Favorite book? It seems to change every time I read a new one!  I think the first book I ever really went on and on about was a WWII story, “Brothers in Arms,” by Jack Lewis Baillot.  This gifted writer worked in the story of redemption in a way that you didn’t realize until the end!  This story almost has you crying.

If you could choose between spring, summer, fall or winter, which would it be? Summer…I love camping, campfires, staying up late, going outside and hearing the crickets, having extra time for writing, and enjoying blue skies and sun!

If you were given an elephant and you can’t sell it or give it away. What would you do with it? If money weren’t an option, I’d build it a big barn and make a pasture for it.  I’m not quite sure what I’d do after that…Maybe train it to pull a wagon?

If you could do three unique things in your lifetime what would they be? Go to Israel, write a lot of novels, live in an exotic place for an extended period of time, maybe even on a missions trip!

Someone gives you a million dollars what would you do with it? I’d give monetary gifts to each of my parents, donate some to a Christian organization, put a lot of it in savings, and spend a little on something I’ve always dreamed about getting.

Have you ever written a book or plan to? (tell us a little bit about the book) Yes!  I’m, the author of a short story entitled, “Even in the Grey.” It is set in WWII, but the main focus of the story isn’t the war. Info about the book below!

Tell us a bit about your blog and what it stands for. My blog is called Beautiful Things.  I want to help others find creative ways to express who they are in Christ.  Whether that be through writing, creating things with their hands, or something else!…I want to help other people my age to create Beautiful Things.

What are some things that help you concentrate when writing? Being in a quiet room.  I’ve tried to write with people around me, but it doesn’t work.  I know a lot of writers listen to music as they write but I can’t.  I may hear an epic music score and get ideas for my story through that, but I don’t listen to music as I’m writing.

What are a few things that inspire you? My family, especially my brother, other writers who’ve put their entire hearts into writing beautiful stories, some very well done movies, people and things I see around me, and the need to create things that honor God and draw others to Him.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse? Joshua 1:9 “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

Okay, last question: What does blogging mean to you? It’s a fun activity that helps me connect with others, and forces me to do some writing.

even in the grey

As promised here is the info about Even in the Grey and where you can buy it! Here’s the blurb from the book!… Daniel Rogers, a young American soldier, harbors bitterness against the man who ruined his life. Memories torment him, and he can’t seem to forget the past. How can a horrible train accident, a pretty French artist, an unplanned reunion, and a pocketful of crayons help him see through his dark world and into the light of forgiveness?

You can find Even in the Grey on Amazon…just click here!

Trust me its totally worth buying!! Come on it’s on sale! Go check it out!

Okay, I hope you enjoyed it! Hopefully, I can do a lot more interviews soon!

THE QUESTIONS (Julia’s questions are in bold):

  1. How old are you turning? You’ll have to refer back to my recent blog post “It’s my Birthday Month” to figure it out!

  6. Worst Birthday memory? On my 14th birthday, I had the stomach flu…yuck! Oh, or the time I went coyote hunting two days before my birthday and I was watching two dogs that woke me up at 4am every morning…after I had hunted till 2am!
  7. If you could do ANYTHING on your Birthday, what would you do? Swim or skydive (I mean they aren’t that much different…lol)

  12. Any plans for the future?  What do you want to do (as in career, etc)? I couldn’t decide between being a house designer, landscaper, military, or police officer (it really bugs me when people speed or don’t have their lights on, on a foggy day)!
  13. Choose three B-day resolutions! To be better at cleaning up, be less stubborn, and read more!
  14. How do you want to see God work in your life? I guess I’d have to say I want Him to continue to keep me going and to make my faith stronger!

Cookies and Cream ice cream cake with fudge and Oreos!

It’s my Birthday Month!

Hi guys! I just had to do a quick post and tell you guys it’s my birthday month!!! I’ve been counting the days!!! And you’ll never guess what I asked for………….an electric toothbrush, new radio with a CD player for our family because the old one is skipping, an adapter for my headphones, and a new book!  I’m super excited!!!! This year we’re just staying home and watching movies, playing games (monopoly), and eating a yummy homemade ice cream cake…pictures to come later!!! Let’s do a quick recap of my past birthdays:

<>< On my 14th birthday, I really wanted to go to this cool cabin for a few days so we did! Unfortunately, two days before we left I got the stomach flu so I spent my birthday really sick (that isn’t the photo we took because the weather was really rainy)!

<>< On my 13th birthday, my parents took me out to eat and I got my promise ring! So fun, (it’s this cute dog bone)!

<>< My 12th birthday we watched all “The Kettles”(very cheesy) we spent pretty much the whole day watching them and I had ice cream cake but it was so frozen my dad was actually considering getting the chainsaw out!

My 11th birthday was spent in my grandparent’s basement because we were building our house and it wasn’t done yet!

<>< My 10th birthday was spent bowling! Which was really fun…they gave me this cool bowling pin that said Happy Birthday!

<>< On my 9th birthday we had a colonial tea party (I made this fun colonial dress…almost all by myself…thanks Mrs. Z.)!

On my 8th birthday my dad built this amazing hay maze which was awesome but the day he showed it to me (the day before my birthday), I had gotten a cavity drilled and I also received a really amazing bike to replace the one I was afraid to ride after I hurt my arm on my other hand-me-down bike. I find it very funny that the most painful memories are the ones we remember the best!

And I’m sure you’re wondering what I did on my 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st…well I can’t remember! I had to ask my family members about the last 5 birthdays (my memory is fried) all I know is that I turned 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 in the time I don’t remember…its amazing that I know that much!

A few facts about me (the real me behind the blog hahaha ‘evil laugh’).

  • I have an evil laugh! If you’ve ever watched “The Wizard of Oz” my laugh sounds like that little creepy witch!
  • I’m afraid of stink bugs
  • I’ve accidentally deleted the sound off my computer (if that’s possible let me know…)
  • I’m OCD about dirty glasses (aka the glasses you wear) and windows
  • I hate carrots, squash, beets, olives, and coffee
  • I do everything fast and usually break things or get machines stuck (who knew you could get a mower stuck 10 times in one day…thanks dad)!

Okay! That’s enough annoying facts about me!

See you guys soon!!!!
